5 Tweets and a Twit.

Twit of the Week

Being over 40 years old, I suppose its only  natural that I don’t “get” Twitter.  I  committed myself to learning what Twitter is and how to use it.

Throughout the week, I’ve pulled 5 tweets that struck a chord with me in one way or another.   Along with each of the tweets, I post a link to an interesting article, blog post, or op-ed piece that I read and liked this week.

After those 5 Tweets, I crown the “Twit of the Week”.

One thing I love about baseball is that there is a game within the game.  Tuesday night, Bryce Harper showed up the Braves pitcher by taking too long to watch a home run leave the park. In accordance with baseball tradition, the pitcher plunked Harper in the leg his next at-bat.  Everybody got hacked, benches cleared, etc.

My favorite part: The Twitter Battle between the Nats and the Braves.

Unwritten Baseball Rule #467: When you do something to show up another – more senior – player, you (or one of your teammates) will get plunked.

Written Rule of Baseball (This is for USA Today: getting beaned means getting hit in the head.  Bryce Harper was not beaned.)

The McDonalds Marketing Strategy very closely mirrors that of the Texas Tea Party:  “When the chips are down, make some shit up.”

I would love for McDonalds to prove that pink slime is  a myth – because a whole bunch of smart people think otherwise.

Did you know that McDonalds Australia pays its employees $15/hr?  Why can’t they do that in America?

Speaking of the Texas Tea Party, this Tweet gives context to a recent statement from  Conehead-in-Command Ken Emmanuelson of the Texas Tea(bag) Party. Here’s what he said:

I’m going to be real honest with you, the Republican Party doesn’t want black people to vote if they’re going to vote 9-to-1 for Democrats.

At least the truth is out there – Republicans don’t want black people voting.

I have been sucked into the greatness that is Dr. Who by my teenage step-daughter (who has shockingly good taste in television shows, having already recommended the awesome BBC Sherlock Holmes series to Momma and I).

I was, however, a tad disappointed that the new Dr. Who wasn’t a woman.  Variety can be the spice of life, and I’m worried that Dr. Who just got a little more bland.

Congratulations to the Corpus Christi Little League Team (aka, Texas-West),  Champions of the Southwest Region of Little League Baseball.

And to the boys from New Mexico – who played so well for so long – you impressed a lot of people with your play and skill in this tournament, and I hope that you go home with your head high and your shoulders back.

Very proud of all of these young men!

TWIT of the Week.

I’m no fan of fast food, but if Burger King is the “Down Syndrome of Fast Food”, as this week’s Twit of the Week says, they must be a pretty awesome place.

Hey Little Man Winklerz…how bout trying to articulate your problems with Burger King using your big boy words?

Oh, and maybe you should change your “quote” from the unoriginal “Life’s a bitch then ya’ die” to the more appropriate “Life is a Bitch, don’t be one”.

I’ve only watched a couple of episodes of Dr. Who, but it seems that the show-runner isn’t a big fan of diversity. :-/

Sadly, you are right. How much fun the writers/producer are missing out on.

I don’t see how twitter is any different from people doing small talk, and telling people their opinion regardless of importance. 🙂

Just like I am writing comments here, I think people like to be heard especially when it comes to their own opinion. Haha.

My brother asked me what Twitter was all about, and I just told him it was a massive conversation of 5 billion people all vying for the snarkiest comment. In 140 wordscharacters or less.

I think you hit the nail on the head!!

      Peace,
      LBD

I didn’t “get” twitter at first, either, but it’s grown on me. Like all social media, though, to be “up” on it, you have to truly have no social life. Love the format of this post… I might steal it >:)

Feel free to steal the idea…it’s fun to do, and one of my favorite posts each week.

      Peace,

i enjoy these posts. I, too, wish BBC would get a little adventurous with who is playing Dr. Who. I loved Matt Smith though. They have had such strong and well-liked female characters on the show, particularly River Song, that I believe us Whovians would welcome a female Dr. I second Orphan Black–fantastic show!!

Fair enough. I do need to update the header of this series. 🙂
