Justice Wears a Hoodie.

“The moral arc of the universe bends at the elbow of justice.”

-Martin Luther King, Jr.

George Zimmerman was just acquitted of murdering Trayvon Martin: acquitted by Man, at any rate.

I wanted to focus this week’s quote on the idea that it is so easy for us to kill: whether the victim is a 17 year old kid, a man with Down Syndrome, or a man with an IQ at or below 70, we pull the trigger so easily it seems.  My thoughts are not yet settled enough to write anything cogent on the topic.

Until my thoughts settle, these 5 Tweets sum up my feelings about the unnecessary death of Trayvon Martin.

Thoughts of Peace to all parents who have lost a child to violence or murder, lawful or not.

  1. I share your sentiments. I live here in Florida, and I’m just in shock. It’s a sad, sad, sad day.

I cant even begin to feel, as a parent myself, what Trayvon’s parents might be feeling right now. We have neighborhood watch people like GZ in our own neighborhood…it might be time to consider moving to a better community.

Yes other than the Miami PD hid a case where Trayvon was found with a bag full of jewelry, read this and see the innocent teen who was not so innocent.

This last link is how they wanted to lie to everyone and hide phone records from martin so what your saying is that if they lie to convict a man thats ok race superceeds justice

Let’s just suppose for a minute that rumor about Trayvon is true (it isn’t), Zimmerman didn’t know him, and it wasn’t relevant anyway. It still isn’t.

Are you saying Trayvon was guilty before proven innocent? That he deserved to be stalked. And, then didn’t reserve the right to defend himself from a stranger following him? That he didn’t belong there because…. finish that sentence for me. Go ahead.

How on earth Zimmerman gets portrayed as the victim and that people buy that malarkey is completely beyond me. Zimmerman is no victim. He is a grown man that killed a teenager.

Trayvon had every right to stand *his* ground. You have presumed Trayvon to be guilty before proven innocent.. Really? Think about that for a minute. I mean, really think about that. Presumption of innocence.. sound familiar? The victim is presumed guilty which is about as assbackwards as it gets.

Zimmerman was told by authority to stay out of it. Not to follow Trayvon, yet he didn’t listen. He gets himself into a mess and then he is rewarded for it. Sorry but in my world, he deserves consequences. Where’s the personal responsibility?

Further, Zimmerman and Trayvon were *equals* and Zimmerman, who, by the way is just a guy, presumed authority over another guy walking down the street. A child, really. What Zimmerman did was flatly, undeniably, and definitively wrong.

By blaming Trayvon for his own death you are essentially saying that racial profiling is acceptable. It isn’t. If Trayvon doesn’t “belong” in any American city because of his skin color, none of us do.

You sir, a part of the problem. Not the solution.

Thanks for having the courage to post such a passionate reply. While I agree with you on every point, its the passion that resonated with me. Don’t ever lose it!

        Peace,

I hope you don’t mind, Little Bird’s Dad, that I reblogged this. I’m still in disbelief that the justice system.. was unable to do Trayvon right.

Glad to be out of Florida :/

      I never mind a reblog. 🙂

Here’s a test, though: What’s the best punk band ever?

      • 🙂

That is a fun one. Depends on your criteria for “true punk” and what values you are looking at. Political? Crazy? Musical talent (which most are not going to qualify, lol). Too much to compare with a “filet” finger wrapped up.

Always loved the Misfits, Casualties, Drop kick murphies, Clash.
Gogol Bordello, if you consider chek gypsy to still be punk 😀

Everyone loves the smiths, sex pistols.
Anti flag, AFI, poison the well, common rider, 15, noFx, too too many to list!

    Cory,

Thanks for posting your point of view; I’ll be sure to read your posts. I didn’t follow the trial on the news all that much.

It doesn’t sound to me like the situation that night was life or death, and it doesn’t speak well for my gender when one of us uses a gun to resolve an issue that wits, words or fists would have resolved better.

GZ made the wrong choice to use the nuclear option and took another man’s little boy. That makes me sad.

Sad and ridiculous time in America. …it could have been my son. I’m soo upset still but I’m calm because NO ONE is more hurt, devasted and shocked than the parents and family of beloved Trayvon Martin.

I’m praying right now because as Iam typing this at 11:38 est on July 16, 2013, ppeople are looting in Crenshaw. …..Los Angeles and God only knows how many MORE deaths will come out of this emotionally filled reaction.

Don’t understand people that loot and destroy their OWN neighborhoods!!!!!!
